Gualtiero Gessa , policeman from Maracalagonis , who died 19 years ago in an air force flight , was remembered as happens every year in his hometown with mass in the parish and a visit to the cemetery .

The chaplain of the State Police, Don Eugenio Cocco, and the parish priest, Don Nicolò Praxiolu, celebrated the mass. There was also a visit to the park dedicated to Gessa in the town of Maracalagonis . Family members, political and military authorities were present.

The tragedy at the end of March 2005: Gualtiero Gessa was on board, with two pilots, an AB206 helicopter of the State Police. The aircraft had taken off from Abbasanta, headed towards Borore: it had lost altitude, skimming the metal mesh of a fence and crashing to the ground.

It was Gessa who fared the worst and died in hospital in Nuoro . The doctors tried to save him with surgery, but it was all in vain. The other members of the crew were saved .
