Sardinia climbs to the top step of the podium at Morramondo 2026. Cristian Spano and Davide Perra, young players from Mandas, have won the title of world champions, winning the 22nd edition of the International Morra Championship, held on September 6th in Cividale del Friuli.
A prestigious victory for the two Sardinian players, coming at the end of a competition that brought together over 550 players from numerous Mediterranean regions and even North and South America. The final match took place at the former Caserma Francescatto, where the Mandas duo wrote an important chapter in the history of Sardinian morra.
This success once again brings the name of Mandas and Sardinia beyond the island's borders, promoting a popular tradition that lives on thanks to the passion and commitment of the new generations. Great satisfaction was expressed by the mayor of Mandas, Umberto Oppus, who has followed the journey of the two young champions with particular interest. "A few months ago, on April 25th, we had the pleasure of hosting our friends from Friuli for Sa Murra Mandaresa, who were thrilled to be organizing the 22nd edition of the Sa Murra World Championships," the mayor recalled, not hiding his pride in the achievement: "I have always believed in and supported the passion and tenacity of these two extraordinary young men, and today more than ever I am particularly proud." Cristian Spano and Davide Perra return from their trip to Friuli with the most important international title, bringing one of the most authentic expressions of Sardinian popular culture to the top of the world.
