In the middle of the electoral campaign for the renewal of the municipal council, the Forum for the Rebirth of Macomer bursts in and, in a long document, highlights the collapse of the Industrial Consortium and the company Tossilo Spa, with the entire waste system. A collapse that has been having repercussions, for some time now and in a heavy way, on the workers, but also on the entire community, from a social and environmental point of view. A situation which, according to the Forum, has led to the paralysis of every activity in Tossilo, whose responsibilities should be sought in the municipal council of recent years, but also in the Region.

«Not a shadow of the new development was seen - writes the Forum among other things - while all the problems have become gangrenous, starting with Tossilo Spa, which hasn't carried out any activity for some time now and therefore doesn't produce any revenue, incurring only costs. The Forum lists the misfortunes linked to the waste system: the incinerator has been shut down since 2016, despite the tender specifications for the new plant providing that the old lines could continue to operate during the construction phase. Since 2020, the pre-selection of dry waste has also been blocked, so the Municipalities confer directly to the Chilivani landfill. The composting plant was stopped in 2021, formally due to the impossibility of providing the guarantees necessary for the continuation of the activity. The plant for the valorisation of waste from separate collection has rusted without ever being put into operation.

Under these conditions, «the joint enterprise ended up accumulating debts of over 5 million euros towards suppliers and employees, without even approving the financial statements for the last few years and even today it is hoped that a joint stock company which is substantially bankrupt and what's more with a majority shareholder in liquidation can be reorganized lightly and quickly through the disbursement of public funds".

This will not be the case for the Forum, but a long, complicated phase fraught with consequences for workers and for the entire community will have to be faced. "This harsh reality - concludes the note - constitutes the inheritance and the heaviest mortgage discharged by the bankruptcy municipal administrations of Mayor Succu on the future of Macomer and its productive fabric".
