Bernardo Zizi, as he wished, was buried in Onifai, his hometown, from where he left many years ago .

The funeral, however, took place in Macomer, in the church of the Holy Family of Nazareth , near his home on Viale Gramsci, where Zizi lived for about 60 years, together with his wife, Tia Mena, and his children Antonello, Daniela and Paolo.

The service was celebrated by Father Andrea Rossi and two other priests. Behind the coffin were many young "poetas" who paid tribute to the giant of limba rhymes , having come from all over the island. They included Bruno Agus, Nicola Farina, Dionigi Bitti, Diego Porcu, Giuseppe Porcu, Tore Senes, Celestino Mureddu, Salvatore Scanu, Salvatore Ladu, Totore Cappai, Alessandro Arca, and many other enthusiasts. Also present were the "Santu Larettu" Tenor Choir of Silanus, which for 50 years had accompanied the poet in his so-called "garas," along with his friends and colleagues Mario Masala, Antonio Pazzola, Frantziscu Mura, Peppe Sotgiu, as well as Remundu Piras and Barore Sassu, to name a few.

"With Bernardo Zizi," Father Andrea Rossi said from the pulpit, "a historic era for Sardinia ends. I believe men like him will never be born again. Knowledgeable poets, who read and studied, and above all, read the Bible, to then make it accessible to the people."

Many people attended the funeral and many accompanied Bernardo Zizi on his final journey back to his hometown.
