The Marghine Health Committee has announced plans for a major mobilization in mid-November, involving the local mayors, but especially the regional health councilor and the special commissioner of the Nuoro local health authority.
"The situation is dramatic," said Francesco Nieddu, president of the Marghine Health Committee, during this morning's conference. "Basic rights are not being guaranteed at all. Our district is in a state of complete disarray, and the situation has worsened."
Long waiting lists, an empty outpatient clinic, then there's the rehabilitation center, the diabetes department, and the community center that's about to be built, but which risks remaining empty, without equipment or staff. "Many services have been dismantled or reduced to a bare minimum," adds Nieddu, "there's no visible planning."
Committee members Francesco Nieddu, Rosanna Carboni, Rita Meloni, and Rosa Tola announce a fight: "Patience is running out. We need the entire community to mobilize, even if there's a lot of resignation."
An appeal has been made to the regional health councilor and the special commissioner of the local health authority: "They still haven't responded to our repeated appeals made last summer," Nieddu adds, "including regarding the health impact of the start-up of the waste-to-energy plant, about which we know nothing, and what's happening in Tossilo."
Several citizens also spoke at the conference, highlighting the health problem and condemning the silence surrounding the many issues. They appealed to the Region: "We want to build a grassroots healthcare system, accessible to all, but for this, the role of mayors becomes crucial."
The committee believes the management is insensitive to the people's true needs. "What could be worse than this? People get sick and die here due to a lack of healthcare."
