The new 1 meter diameter distribution pipeline that feeds the Lower Coghinas Valley has been operational since yesterday, June 20th. This was announced by the president of the Northern Sardinia Reclamation Consortium, Toni Stangoni. «This is the main pipeline , 800 meters long, which serves 1,045 hectares where approximately 395 companies are located , i.e. approximately 30% of the companies in the Lower Valley irrigation district. On 23 September 2023, for the third time in fifteen days the old fiberglass pipeline, dating back to the 1990s, collapsed – recalls Giosuè Brundu, general director of the Reclamation Consortium -. It was therefore useless and risky to proceed with the repair since the materials were now subject to the wear and tear of time."
An emergency that had called all the consortium members to a meeting in Valledoria on 6 October, during which the Northern Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium explained which buffer solution would guarantee the irrigation supply to the companies, and in the meantime spoke with the Region to find the sums and proceed with the reconstruction of the pipeline: total works for 4.3 million euros.
«The technical offices, led by the general director Giosuè Brundu and the technical director Giuseppe Bellu – explains vice president Francesco Pala – did an excellent job. After the allocation of resources by the Sardinia Region in December 2023, we proceeded quickly to carry out the design of the work, award the works and close them. We set ourselves the goal of arriving at the summer season with the new conduct and we succeeded, keeping the commitments we made."
