Happy event in Lotzorai where the first Caretta caretta eggs began to hatch last night on the beach of Pollu . Just over 6 weeks ago the nest was found by the staff of the Naval Base of the Forestry Corps of Arbatax, thanks to monitoring carried out with the aid of drones.

Hatching was early , as it occurred just 44 days after deposition . According to researchers from the CNR and the "Sinis Recovery Center for sea turtles and cetaceans" (CReS) in Cabras, who coordinate the scientific monitoring activities of the regional network for the conservation of marine fauna, this advance may be caused by ' high temperature of that stretch of beach , constantly detected by the sensors positioned throughout the hatching period.

The first turtles were spotted around 6.30pm by a group of tourists who immediately called the Forestry Corps and activated the Regional Network protocol. The unusual time of leaving the nest, with the sand temperature still high, forced the turtles to stay still waiting for the night. The delicate situation pushed CNR-CReS researchers to collect them and place them in containers with damp sand.

The specimens were released a few hours later, around 9pm, in the presence of numerous tourists and onlookers who witnessed the happy event. The nursery will be manned in the next few days , awaiting the other births. In the next few days the nursery will be manned by the staff of the Naval Base of the Arbatax Forestry Corps awaiting other births. Moments of amazement also in Pula, in the Pinus Village area where a new hatching was reported yesterday afternoon. In the late evening 7 small specimens took off .
