FAO promotes the Region, the choices made to counter the locust invasion. And it doesn't matter if the situation in the countryside of central Sardinia appears out of control.
Here is what emerged in the morning, in summary, from a long-awaited moment of dialogue and discussion held by videoconference. From the Regional Department of Agriculture, in via Pessagno in Cagliari, the councilor Valeria Satta spoke with the representatives of the FAO, connected from Rome, and with the commissioner of Laore, Gerolamo Solina.
« The management of the locust emergency developed by the Region and by the Laore agency is optimal and is continuing according to the objectives set: the FAO experts confirm this, who will come to Sardinia on 29 May to personally evaluate the progress of the work and thus be able to strengthen this precious collaboration». This was stated by the Councilor for Agriculture, Valeria Satta, on the sidelines of today's meeting. Giunta Solinas received the expected reassurances from experts, in particular Shoki Al Dobai, locust team manager of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and of the FAO Plant Production and Protection Division (Nsp); hence, Alexander Latchinsky, FAO expert on locusts. In connection with Nuoro also the Prefect Giancarlo Dionisi.
