Six years in prison for the possession of a load of nine kilograms of cocaine , a drug found by the Guardia di Finanza of Livorno inside the trailer of an articulated lorry headed for the port of Isola Bianca, in Olbia.

The sentence is against a road haulier from Silanus, Michele Benzi . The 53-year-old man was arrested by the financiers in the port of Livorno on November 22 last year.

The soldiers of the Fiamme Gialle, coordinated by Colonel Cesare Antuofermo, had stopped Benzi's truck and after a thorough search, a bag containing the cocaine pats was found and seized.

Benzi, defended by the lawyers Francesco Lai and Marta Gaiotto, chose to immediately close the matter by opting for the abbreviated procedure. The trial was celebrated before the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Livorno, the requests of the public prosecutor Ezia Mancusi were accepted.

The investigations were conducted in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza of Olbia and are not yet concluded. Investigations are underway on the phones seized in Livorno, devices with shielding for making and receiving encrypted calls .
