The port of Porto Torres is preparing to receive the landing and stationing of the gas carrier-regasifier ship , used as a Fsru, a floating terminal that will be installed in the industrial port.

Geognostic investigations authorized by Snam - Società Nazionale Metanodotti - began on Friday with checks and coring of the site to assess the depth of the seabed. It is envisaged that the naval unit can be placed in the stretch of water adjacent to the E.On quay, where coal ships dock, starting from 2024, following the conclusion of the authorization and regulatory process and the implementation of the works necessary for mooring and connection to the transport network.

The ships will shuttle between the regasification terminals of Panigaglia (La Spezia) and Olt (Livorno) towards the Fsru unit installed in the industrial port of Porto Torres to serve industrial and thermoelectric consumption in the north of the island, in addition to the basin of the metropolitan city of Sassari. A match that has more than one value in terms of energy supply and economic development in the North West of Sardinia.

The floating terminal (FSRU) will have a capacity of approximately 25,000 cubic metres, which will inject gas into the networks to serve civil and industrial users in the area concerned . Mayor Massimo Mulas, while being in favor of a regasification terminal on the mainland, has declared himself willing to collaborate in defining strategies and planning the intervention.
