Funds are arriving for coastal safety in the municipalities of Porto Torres, Tonara, Sedini, and Ossi.
The Regional Council approved the resolution proposed by the Councillor for Public Works, Antonio Piu , in agreement with the Councillor for the Budget, Giuseppe Meloni, which allocates funding of over 6 million euros to four areas of the island under the 2021-2027 ERDF programming for urgent interventions to mitigate hydrogeological risk.
"With this measure," explains Councilor Piu, "the Region continues its efforts to address the most critical situations in areas affected by significant hydrogeological and landslide risks. This is to ensure citizens receive adequate land protection and care, improve general safety, protect people, and safeguard property."
Specifically, the planned project in Tonara is aimed at mitigating the landslide risk affecting the municipal road from Via Su Nuratze to Via Savoia, through defense and consolidation measures. The planned works will complete the protection measures recently installed on a portion of the slope, secure areas without safeguards, and protect the road section from falling rocks for its reopening to local traffic. The budget amounts to €1,700,000.
The works planned in Porto Torres, funded with €562,000, aim to secure the rocky ridge between the Nautical Technical Institute and Piazza Amsicora. This involves clearing the rock, installing steel bar anchors, and covering it with high-strength metal mesh and natural fiber biomesh. Remediation of the deteriorated concrete and targeted interventions to stabilize the landslide are also planned.
A double-girder bridge will be built in Sedini to replace the current ford crossing the Silanis River in San Nicola. This will ensure greater safety and road accessibility even during severe weather events. €3,200,000 has been allocated for the project.
In Ossi , the "Sa Tregonaia" area is planned to be secured. Following natural landslides, a portion of the public pedestrian road is in serious disrepair and poses a public safety hazard. Consolidation work on the slope and the retaining wall facing the municipal road is planned, costing approximately €620,000.
