"The importance of the enormous natural heritage of Sardinia, characterized by areas of considerable naturalistic and environmental importance, is confirmed by the commitment of the Region to guarantee their conservation, recovery and promotion, also through the establishment of protected natural areas or of natural monuments. Therefore, the first objective of the regional strategy for sustainable development is to conserve biodiversity, restore and enhance ecosystem services ". Thus the regional councilor for the defense of the environment, Gianni Lampis, after the approval of the resolution which, for 2021, allocates 200 thousand euros in favor of the municipalities that aim at the establishment and management of parks, reserves and natural monuments, or of areas of particular naturalistic and environmental importance, also through activities of animation and awareness of the development opportunities offered by the protection and enhancement of the environment.

Currently in Sardinia the surface of protected areas is equal to 19.9% of the regional surface, while the value to be achieved by 2030, according to the European strategy on biodiversity, is 30%. "The animation actions involving the population and stakeholders present in the territories who intend to propose the establishment of a protected area or a natural monument are therefore fundamental - continues the commissioner - thus being able to reach shared decisions. with citizens ".

"In addition to the specific animation actions in the area, the Region also finances the preparation of preparatory studies and research", added Lampis.

Some municipal administrations have been financed for the preliminary activities for the establishment of parks, natural monuments or areas of particular naturalistic and environmental importance: to the Municipalities of Ballao (leader), Goni and Armungia, for the Flumendosa Regional Natural Park, 60 thousand euros; to the Municipality of Arbus, for the natural monuments Monte Arcuentu and Casa del Poeta, 40 thousand; to the Municipality of Arzachena, for the Rio San Giovanni nature trail, mill, wet area of Saloni, 40 thousand; to the Municipality of Guspini, for the natural monument Sa Rocca Incuaddigada, 20 thousand; to the Municipalities of Seulo (leader) and Gadoni, for the natural monument Sa Stiddiosa, 20 thousand; to the Municipality of Esterzili, for the natural monument of Santa Vittoria, 20 thousand.
