A contract has been signed between Sae Sardegna, publisher of La Nuova Sardegna, and L'Unione Sarda, effective October 1st, which provides for the printing of La Nuova in Cagliari, at the L'Unione Sarda Printing Centre.

SAE Sardegna's request to print La Nuova in Cagliari is a consequence of the malfunction of its own rotary press which, due to age and obsolescence, does not guarantee the regular release of the newspaper on newsstands.

In fact, the Cerutti rotary press that prints with Flexographic technology in use in Sassari is now the only one in Italy, for which spare parts for the mechanical, electrical and electronic parts are no longer available as they are out of production, including the printing matrices. The Offset technology, in use in all the daily printing plants in Italy, is the same one used in the L'Unione Printing Center in Cagliari, where all the national newspapers on newsstands in Sardinia are printed.

The numerous technical blocks during the summer period, resolved with the continuous availability of L'Unione Sarda to print the competing newspaper in an emergency, often without even warning, accelerated the decision of Sae Sardegna to ask to print in Cagliari to guarantee the presence of its daily newspaper on newsstands.

L'Unione Sarda has reserved the best market conditions for the publisher of La Nuova. This agreement allows the historic newspaper La Nuova Sardegna to remain on newsstands at the service of its readers.

Unione Sarda has also made itself available - in accordance with the trade union agreement and in compliance with and in accordance with art. 16 of the National Contract for Printing Works - to hire up to 9 new workers from La Nuova in its Cagliari plant, in order to mitigate the consequences on employment due to the cessation of printing activity in Sassari.

The agreement between the editors of both historic publications is limited to mere industrial activity and in no way affects the editorial line of each.
