Healthcare in Sardinia is suffering. Known dramatic situation , which now finds new certification: this is what the Gimbe Foundation says in the Report "Differentiated autonomy in healthcare", created to examine the critical issues of the text of the Calderoli bill and analyze the potential impact on the healthcare system of the major autonomy requested by the Regions in matters of health protection.
From the analysis of the fulfillment of the essential levels of assistance (Lea), the health services that the Region must guarantee to citizens free of charge or through the payment of a ticket, it emerges that in the decade 2010-2019 the total cumulative percentage is 56.3% (Italian average 75.7%). «43.7% of the resources allocated in the period 2010-2019 did not produce services for citizens», explains Gimbe.
Furthermore, in 2020 the total score of the Island's compliance with the Lea is 179 (max score 300): Sardinia is thus in 15th position among the autonomous regions and provinces and was found to be non-compliant according to the New Guarantee System (NSG ) because it recorded an insufficient score in the district area (48.95 out of 60) and in the hospital area (59.26 out of 60). In 2021 he did even worse with a score of 169.7 placing him in nineteenth place.
Furthermore, in addition to the shortage of doctors, there is also a lack of nurses: in Sardinia there are 4.82 for every thousand inhabitants, below the national average of 5.06. To achieve the objectives of the Pnrr Health Mission and in particular the 2026 target of assisting at least 10% of the over 65 population in integrated home care, the Region should increase the patients assisted by 233%.
Not only that, from the analysis of healthcare mobility in the period 2010-2021 it emerges that the Island has accumulated an overall negative balance of -864,970,904 euros. That is, many Sardinians have decided to seek treatment outside the region, which today seems less like the land of centenarians: " In 2022, life expectancy at birth is 82 years while the Italian average is 82.6 years", he says the Gimbe Foundation which shows Sardinia as fifth to last in the country.
