This time the mayor of Cabras Andrea Abis raises his voice: «No, the problem is not the lack of lifeguards, but the lack of prudence of the bathers, the total recklessness. When the sea is very rough you shouldn't enter the water, period. We are tired of hearing that the coast is not monitored enough." Harsh words that the mayor utters after, for the umpteenth time, some people in difficulty in the waves, including two children, reached the shore thanks to the help of some swimmers. It happened yesterday on Maimoni beach, but now it's controversial.

The mayor's appeals, after the rescue which took place in San Giovanni di Sinis on 30 June by the multiple Cagliari swimming champion Corrado Sorrentino, who by pure chance was on the beach at the time, were of little use.

Even when the sea is rough and the currents are strong, tourists but also local citizens continue to challenge the waves: «In Maimoni the lifeguards are not present this year - Abis points out - this is because the resources that the Region has allocated as everyone knows they are few. But it wouldn't change anything anyway. Given the incorrect behavior of swimmers, there should be a tower every hundred meters along all 40 kilometers of coast. And this is not possible, it will never be possible. It takes intelligence. It takes common sense, there is a limit to everything. We as the administration are doing everything we can to make holidaymakers safe, but we also need their collaboration. Our sea becomes dangerous in bad weather."
