Europe too relies on spy balloons to strengthen defenses and observe the moves of potential enemies. And the testing of the next Franco-Italian prototypes, which will also be built with the contribution of the European Commission, will also take place in Sardinia by 2024 . The most probable scenario is that of the Salto di Quirra inter-force polygon.

Brussels has published the details of the funding disbursed under the Union's common defense program carried out by the EDA (European Defense Agency).

«Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has signed a contract worth 43 million euros for the EuroHaps (High-Altitude Platform Systems) demonstration project and announces its launch» : this can be read in an official note. The protagonists are therefore two companies among the strongest in the aerospace and defense sector.

The island is called into question by Thales Alenia Space : EuroHaps, it is explained, is "relaunching the use of high-altitude platform systems for government and defense missions with the support of six defense ministries (France, Spain, Germany , Italy, Hungary and the Czech Republic), the European Commission, the regional authority of the South of France and the Canary Islands region, where, in addition to those planned in Sardinia, demonstration flights from Fuerteventura are planned starting from 2024".
