The elderly are increasing and young people are decreasing in Sardinia: in 2023 the island exceeded 413 thousand people over 65, while children are less than 164 thousand, against 177 thousand three years ago .

An increasingly evident problem for the development of Sardinia according to the Uil Pensionati, which from Cagliari launches a dispute on the condition of the elderly and wands the Region asking for "greater transparency" in the management of Pnrr funds , according to the union done independently and without sharing of projects with the social partners.

"The cases of abandonment recorded in the news are only the tip of the iceberg - explained the regional general secretary of the UilP Rinaldo Mereu -, loneliness is a dramatic problem for many elderly people, just as the treatment of people in care homes is a problem and in the RSA . As a union we have a duty to supervise and claim the safety of those hospitalized in these structures".

Active aging and solidarity between generations are among the most heartfelt topics, and the question of waiting lists cannot be avoided ("For a CT scan in Carbonia you have to wait 292 days") , as well as that of welfare.

"Retirees must be able to continue to carry out their activities in safety - explained the national secretary general Carmelo Barbagallo -. For this reason the UilP has proposed to set up a Civil Service for active elderly people which allows elderly people who wish to do so to carry out activities they like at the service of the community ».
