In Sardinia, the gap between dreams and everyday reality is becoming increasingly dramatic. A recent Istat analysis paints an alarming picture: in 2023, almost 70% of families on the island declared that they were unable to save, while over half were unable to cope with unexpected expenses. The Sardinian household economy is thus in an implacable grip, squeezed between inflation, prohibitive energy costs and a growing difficulty in "getting by".
"Poverty has become a constant for Sardinian families," underlines Mauro Carta, president of Acli Sardegna. " From 2020 to 2023, an average family lost 2,000 euros of income due to inflation , while energy and food costs increased unsustainably. At the end of 2023, over 439,000 people were living in precarious economic conditions: almost one in three Sardinians. It is necessary for political forces to reflect on the roots of this crisis and act urgently."
According to the data, more than 41% of families live with significant economic difficulties, and only 7.5% declare that they face their situation with serenity. A precarious condition that spares almost no one: 35.7% of families evaluate their economic resources as scarce or even insufficient , highlighting a worsening compared to the previous year.
Sardinia is thus having to deal with an increasingly deep-rooted social fragility . Daily difficulties not only limit the present, but also take away the possibility of planning a more stable future, transforming every month into a struggle for economic survival.
The Acli warning calls for the urgency of structural solutions to reverse this trend and offer concrete support to families. " The risk, otherwise, is that Sardinia will continue to sink into a social emergency that is increasingly difficult to manage ."
