Two men fishing in shallow water in Mandriola, the seaside village of San Vero Milis, were intercepted by patrols from the Forestry Corps of the naval base, the Oristano station and the inspectorate's investigative unit.

The two were busy collecting sea urchins. Once out of the water, they were subjected to checks during which it emerged that they were in possession of around 300 specimens each.

Since urchin fishing is reserved for professional fishermen (specifically authorised) and only between 6am and 2pm, the two illegal fishermen - both resident in the Oristano area - were subject to an administrative fine of two thousand euros each.

The equipment was seized while the urchins, still viable, were put back into the sea.
