Fishing gear positioned illegally were discovered in the ponds of Porto Pino during an operation which involved Forestry Corps personnel belonging to the forestry inspectorates of Iglesias and Cagliari.

There were 15 bertovellis – made up of nets fixed to hoops – in total: they were seized for confiscation through the intervention of a nautical unit of the Forestry Corps which also ascertained the lack of the appropriate marking of the tools.

Furthermore , the opening of the net mesh was far lower than the minimum established by regional legislation according to which the width must be 24 mm in the cod and 28 mm in the wings.

Bertovelli, recall the Foresters, represent a serious threat to the biodiversity present in the ponds, as they are positioned in a period of the year in which they are not permitted to ensure the protection of the eel.
