A car wash in the metropolitan city of Cagliari was seized by the Coast Guard because it was deemed "illegal".
The discovery was made during checks carried out as part of the “Oro Blu” operation, aimed at protecting the marine-coastal environment and in particular at combating
environmental crimes relating to water discharges.
During an inspection of the area in question, of about 50 square meters, the men of the Cagliari Coast Guard found the lack of the necessary authorization for the discharge required by the Environmental Code. The disposal of industrial waste water was therefore carried out illegally . Hence the seizure and the reports to the competent authorities for the necessary measures.
Overall, within the scope of the “Oro Blu” operation , 2,668 checks were carried out in the jurisdiction of the Maritime Directorate of Central and Southern Sardinia, of which 236 were on water discharges (of which only 6%, following the investigations, were found to be without authorization), 1,040 on the waste cycle and 881 for the purpose of identifying marine pollution phenomena , in addition to 426 checks to combat illegal use of state property and 85 checks in Marine Protected Areas.
