The Uta Forestry Station has reported the owner of a construction company, already known for similar precedents, caught red-handed while burning hazardous waste on agricultural land in the municipality of Capoterra.

The investigation was triggered after repeated communications to the Department's operational line, which reported recurring episodes of waste burning and intense, smelly fumes that could be detected both in the early morning and late evening.

During the search, officers caught the suspect stoking a fire of approximately five square meters, composed of painted wood, glass, plastic, and aluminum. The abundant presence of ash indicated previous combustion.

From what emerged from the investigations, the man had been reported on June 8, 2024 for the same conduct on the same land.
On that occasion, an agricultural area of approximately 900 square meters—used for the illegal storage of waste, including hazardous materials such as asbestos and plastic, as well as a disused vessel and truck—had been seized, with a concurrent cleanup order.

For this latest incident, the suspect was again reported to the Judicial Authority for several crimes related to the illegal management of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste without authorization and in the absence of mandatory traceability systems.

Current legislation provides for significantly increased penalties for illegal waste management, with fines reaching approximately €4,500, in addition to criminal liability for more serious misconduct.
