It's not just cancer patients at Businco Hospital who are suffering from the heat . The situation also affects San Michele Hospital (known to everyone as Brotzu) and Microcitemico. And in particular, workers exposed "to heat stress conditions no longer compatible with minimum safety levels."
Gianfranco Angioni of the USB Sanità union spoke out: "The reports received from staff highlight a widespread, structural, and unspecific situation, with critical operating conditions potentially detrimental to the health" of workers, patients, and hospital visitors.
«At present, there is insufficient evidence regarding the actual effectiveness of the technical, organizational and maintenance measures adopted, nor regarding the ability of the systems to guarantee the correct continuous functioning of the air conditioning in the three facilities» .
A letter addressed to the management of Arnas Brotzu (which includes the three hospitals) requests clarity on the state of the air conditioning systems and the planned interventions.
"The structural shortage of essential professionals such as refrigeration engineers, plumbers, and specialized technicians is leading," Angioni continues, "to a significant slowdown in maintenance work, resulting in worsening system conditions and increased health and safety risks in the workplace."
