"I lost my mind". Fulvio Baule, a 40-year-old from Ploaghe on trial for the double murder of his in-laws (Basilio Saladdino and Liliana Mancusa) which occurred with an ax in February last year in Porto Torres, reconstructed those dramatic moments in the courtroom, during which he also his wife, Ilaria Saladdino, was almost killed.

"My father-in-law spoke badly to me and jumped on me, I lost my mind," he told the judges of the Court of Assizes of Sassari in his spontaneous statements.

Defended by the lawyer Nicola Lucchi, Baule had never spoken in court until now. Today he tried to justify his crazy gesture.

Also on the stand were five other witnesses called by prosecutor Enrica Angioni, they are neighbors: "He was straddling Mr. Saladdino's body and continued to hit him with the ax even while he was helpless on the ground", said one of the witnesses.

On the evening of February 26, 2022, Baule argued in the street with his wife in front of the building where she lived with her parents in Porto Torres, he took an ax from the trunk of his car and first hit his father-in-law in the head, killing him instantly, then his wife and finally his mother-in-law, who died in hospital after a month in a coma.

Finally he ran away, abandoning his two one-year-old twin sons on the street who had witnessed the massacre, and shortly afterwards he turned himself in to the police in Porto Torres.

The victims' families, present in the courtroom this morning, have joined the civil action with the lawyers Gabriele Satta, Gianmario Solinas and Silvia Ferraris. The trial will continue on September 26 with the depositions of other prosecution witnesses.
