«Stefano's screams of pain could be heard throughout the section where he was imprisoned. My brother, the evening before October 12, 2022, when he was found dead in his cell, suffered a beating from the guards." The accusations launched by Marisa Dal Corso, sister of Stefano, found dead in the Massama prison in Oristano , are serious. Words pronounced during a press conference in the Chamber of Deputies together with Italia Viva parliamentarian Roberto Giachetti, who presented a question on the case to the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio.

«That evening another inmate who was in the cell in front of my brother felt ill because he had not received medicines for diabetes, which he suffered from, for five days», said the woman , «Stefano then called the operators, he a discussion arose with them. After a while they entered his cell, closed the door and his screams could be heard all the way to the kitchen."

His reaction to his brother's death was first of disbelief. Then when, with the help of a psychologist, she was able to see the photos of the corpse, her disbelief became doubtful, starting from one detail in particular: the shoes. « My brother has always worn untied sneakers since he was little, but in the photos he had shoes from a brand he hated, in a larger size and tied with two long bows. He would never have worn them like that."

Del Corso seems to have no doubts about this detail and said that she had to make a choice that cost her a lot: «To reopen the trial I was forced to bring out some testimonies that I had kept to myself to protect the prisoners, I had to do so despite the fear of repercussions on them and I take responsibility for it. I ask the State for my brother's dignity, they must give it back to me and they can only do so by carrying out the autopsy which they have always denied me." Next to her, Giachetti: «We only ask for clarity on this matter, we ask that those who have the tools to bring out the truth make them available».

The complaint had a wide echo: «It is a duty to protect the penitentiary institution and the women and men of the penitentiary police force in light of the alleged shadows raised by Stefano Dal Corso's family about the suicide of their relative in prison in Oristano» , declares Donato Capece, general secretary of Sappe. Who adds: «We are calm because we know that the prison police staff of Oristano have always demonstrated their professionalism and have always worked to ensure order and safety, promoting re-educational treatment».

The guarantor for the prisoners, Irene Testa, also intervened in the matter.
