Estimates of the damage suffered by private individuals and public infrastructures due to the gigantic fire began this morning in the Posada area. Mayor Salvatore Ruiu approved a state of emergency and received a visit first from deputy Dario Giagoni and then from regional councilors Marco Porcu and Pierluigi Saiu, who wanted to personally ascertain the destruction.

The first estimates speak of about 700 hectares of Mediterranean maquis gone up in smoke, huge damages to some farms and breeding farms, together with those to the water purifier of San Giovanni which suddenly stopped working causing fears of a long water crisis for the whole country. But the immediate intervention of Abbanoa's technicians prevented the worst and as early as this afternoon the water treatment plant was put back into operation even if the water produced was declared non-drinkable and unsuitable for food purposes.

Four people were injured, in two cases it was the effects of smoke poisoning accused by a Forestry Corps agent and a Forestas worker. The latter was transported by air ambulance to the San Francesco di Nuoro hospital in red code, but both are out of danger.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ruiu anticipated his intention to present a complaint against unknown persons to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nuoro.
