Sassari's pg Gabriella Pintus asked the Court of Appeal to suspend the extradition proceedings against Carles Puigdemont, the former president of Catalonia targeted by Spanish justice for the 2017 independence referendum, arrested in Alghero in recent days and then released just waiting for today's hearing.
Pintus urged the stop at the college chaired by the magistrate Salvatore Marinaro on the basis of the need to await the definition of the pending procedure relating to immunity and the preliminary question under consideration by the European Court of Justice.
The defense board of Puigdemont was also associated with the request of the pg, assisted by the lawyer Agostinangelo Marras.
Meanwhile, we learn that the Spanish judge Pablo Llarena sent official communications to the Sassari Court to remind that, as in the case of Puigdemont, the arrest orders he issued are also valid for Clara Ponsatí and Toni Comín, former regional councilors who are currently in Sardinia and who arrived to support the former Catalan president at the hearing. Both are MEPs with suspended immunity from European justice.

A counter-demonstration by Vox's right-wing ultranationalists had also been announced, but a very small delegation - led by lawyers, who had filed a summons to appear before the hearing - silently passed through the crowd and entered the building.
