«Sardinia risks no longer having general practitioners». The alarm comes from the Italian Doctors Union of Sardinia, which has proclaimed a state of agitation which, if it does not get answers, "will culminate in a few days of strike".

Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow on the Zoom platform, open to all doctors.

«The doctor's work worsens every day due to a series of critical issues caused by politics or that politics is not addressing such as: the shortage of the number of doctors with a greater workload for doctors on duty; the ever-increasing bureaucratic burdens that take time away from clinical activity; failure to pay part of salaries and failure to adjust salaries (while new services for fee-paying or foreign doctors are financed); the hostile attitude towards doctors who try to carry on services despite many difficulties, see the case of the doctors on call in Oristano", explains the union.

He adds: «At the same time the Sardinia Region allocates resources and funding to create new services (Ascot) instead of solving doctors' problems. The result is that the few doctors who remain will want to work in the Ascot services and no one will want to be a general practitioner."

In tomorrow's meeting some topics will be addressed such as «the issues linked to the difficulties of the Regional Health System made even more evident by the pandemic; the proposals for strengthening local healthcare; the identification of paths for trade union representation to increasingly guarantee the democracy of the healthcare system".
