A turning point in the investigation into the accident that occurred on July 3 in Liscia di Vacca , Porto Cervo , when Mario Masala , a 40-year-old from Sassari, ran over his neighbor, Tonino Pirastru, with his van, who died following the impact.

Masala was in fact arrested by the agents of the Flying Squad and the Highway Police of Olbia and Sassari on charges of voluntary homicide.

It was therefore not a tragic accident: the Prosecutor's Office issued a custodial order accusing Masala of having run over and killed Pirastru on purpose .

According to investigators, there was no love lost between the two neighbors, their relationship was very tense due to disagreements over a shared space for cars to pass between their homes, and there was a furious fight just a few hours before the tragedy.

Crucial to the investigations – in addition to the testimonies collected by the officers and the analysis of the footage recorded by the video surveillance systems in the area – were the technical checks and reconnaissance carried out in recent days, including with the use of drones, to ascertain the exact dynamics of the incident and the trajectory of the van , expert reports requested by the prosecutor Milena Aucone who is coordinating the investigation and entrusted to the Highway Police.

For his part , Masala himself, defended by lawyers Gianfranco Frongia and Domenica Gala, continues to reject the accusations and maintain that it was not a deliberate act.

Pirastru's family, protected by lawyers Elias Vacca and Ezia Orecchioni , is also following the story closely and in recent weeks has also carried out in-depth investigations into the dynamics of the tragedy, arriving at the same conclusions as the investigators.
