An inmate has not returned to Bancali from his day release. The news was reported by Sappe delegate Antonio Cannas, delegate of the autonomous penitentiary police union, who reports that the inmate is a Sardinian prisoner originally from Cagliari. "It is an irresponsible and very serious event," comments Luca Fais, regional secretary of Sappe , "for which police operations by our penitentiary officers are already underway to capture the escapee. But Sappe hopes for a quick solution to these critical events involving inmates, which have now become merely statistics."
"In our opinion," adds Donato Capece, national secretary of Sappe, "it is essential to strengthen the police presence in the territory, including in the Offices for External Penal Enforcement. An absolutely indispensable strengthening to take charge of the controls on the execution of alternative measures to detention , of admissions to work outside, of house arrest, of reward permits, on the transport of prisoners and on their guarding in hospital. And to do this, new hires are needed in the penitentiary police force. The safety of citizens cannot be the object of cuts and cannot be put in difficulty if penitentiary police officers are not hired."
