The fire had devastated three hectares of land, threatening roads, businesses, vineyards and olive groves and several homes . It was one of the first fires of the season and about a month later the forestry corps reported a 50-year-old from Santa Giusta for negligent fire .
The fire broke out on June 14th around 11.30 am in the locality of S'Ungroni de Mandas, then with the rise in temperatures and the strengthening of the wind, the flames spread to the nearby land and, only thanks to the timely intervention of a patrol of the Marrubiu forestry station, the Forestas di Santa Giusta team and a team of the Oristano firefighters, the damage was contained. The extinguishing operations continued throughout the afternoon, only by late evening was the fire put out and the area cleared .
The staff of the Marrubiu forestry station ascertained that the fire was caused by the negligence and incompetence of a farmer who was carrying out unauthorized burning of branches and plant residues . The man has been reported. The forestry corps reminds us that even today the consequences of the imprudent use of fire are often underestimated. «Considering the climatic trend, it is advisable to take the maximum precautions when carrying out activities that can cause sparks and start fires – we read in a note from the forestry corps – Violation of regional fire prevention regulations can lead to administrative fines ranging from 5 thousand to 50 thousand euros or, in the event that a fire is caused, the complaint for the crime of negligent fire, punishable by imprisonment from two to five years ".
