State police officers seized the hammer brandished by the underage boy who in Sennori savagely struck a young man from Sorso, 22-year-old Patrizio Carboni, now hospitalized in the Neurosurgery department of the Sassari civil hospital.

The episode of violence took place during the night between Saturday and Sunday during the carnival celebrations.

It happened around half past one in the morning, at the end of the parade of allegorical floats and Sardinian masks through the streets of the centre. And messages of solidarity with Carboni have already multiplied on the web, after the young man posted a photo of himself with a swollen face on his Facebook page.

It all started with a simple argument between the tables of a club, a heated discussion between two groups of young people. Then the situation degenerated, the 22-year-old was allegedly dragged out of the club, the young people first fought each other with their bare hands and, amidst insults and threats, slaps and punches flew.

Suddenly a hammer appeared, held by the minor, which brutally struck the young man from Sorso several times in the face and head, causing him a jaw fracture, a head injury and serious eye injuries. The doctors diagnosed him with 60 days of treatment.

The Carnival party in a few minutes turned into a scene of blood. The victim of the attack was immediately rescued by the 118 operators, who transported him to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in red code.

The report on the loose for serious injuries was triggered against his attacker, pending new provisions.

After having seized the hammer, the policemen of the mobile team of the Sassari Police Headquarters started the investigation to identify further people involved.

The carabinieri of the Porto Torres company also intervened on the spot.

THE MAYOR – While the investigations are proceeding, the mayor of Sennori Nicola Sassu has been sentenced for the incident: «The attack that took place in the night between last Saturday and Sunday is an unjustifiable and unspeakable act. I wish the injured boy to recover as soon as possible, while for the person who was responsible for this shameful episode of violence I am sure that the police and judicial authorities will take the right measures. Sennori is a civil and hospitable community and these acts cannot be accepted," said the mayor.
