In Guasila the mystery of the “missing tiles” has been solved.

For some time now , strange thefts have been reported in the countryside around the town and in the surrounding areas: old abandoned farmhouses were being robbed, with the roofs dismantled and the old tiles vanished into thin air.

An unusual phenomenon, which has pushed the Carabinieri of the local station to start a series of targeted observation and control services, with the aim of intercepting those responsible and stopping the wave of thefts.

The turning point came during the night between Thursday and Friday, when the military, engaged in a patrol in rural areas, spotted two men “at work” in a farmhouse in the Santa Bona Pasqua area. Taking advantage of the quiet of the night, a 64-year-old and a 20-year-old, father and son, both local bricklayers, were intent on carefully dismantling the roof and loading 217 ancient Sardinian-style tiles, torn from the fenced and closed structure, onto a van.

At that point, the intervention of the Carabinieri was immediate: the two were stopped in flagrante delicto, accused of aggravated theft. But the most interesting discovery came with the house search: in their homes, in fact, 826 other tiles of the same type were found, which leaves room for the assumption that the theft was only the latest in a long series.

The material was seized, pending investigations into its provenance and the possible involvement of the two arrested in other similar incidents.

The damage caused to the owner of the farmhouse, an 86-year-old from Guasila, is still being quantified, while the Judicial Authority has been informed of the facts.

After the formal procedures, the father and son were taken to court for the summary hearing, where the judge will be called upon to express his opinion on their position.
