The municipal council of Macomer unanimously voted to join the Trenino Verde Storico della Sardegna foundation , but with a distinction compared to the other 56 municipalities that join it: the headquarters must not be in Sassari, but must return to the historic one of Macomer , where the tourist line to Bosa Marina remains (47 kilometers of tracks that cross a vast area of natural beauty), as well as the narrow gauge to Nuoro.

«The objective is to protect, recover and enhance the railway infrastructure - says Rita Atzori, city councilor delegated by the mayor - but also to develop cultural, tourist, food and wine programs and for the dissemination and knowledge of railway and tourist services of the Little Green Train".

The entire municipal council, however, proposes that of Macomer as the foundation's headquarters. «This is because our town - says the mayor Riccardo Uda - has been the historic seat of the complementary railways compartment for over a century».

From the minority benches the request is unanimous. Former mayor Antonio Succu: « Macomer deserves the headquarters of the foundation . The foundation is however a good thing, because it underlines the importance of the green train as an exceptional development tool." Gianfranco Congiu: «The headquarters in Sassari is proposed in contempt of history». Luca Pirisi: « The foundation represents an opportunity, creating a structured strategy . Instead, we must have a political debate on the Macomer-Nuoro route."

Luciana Uda asks to undertake a form of collaboration , as was suggested by Gianfranco Congiu, who considers everything an opportunity for cultural and economic development of the territory, «even if it is necessary to get out of the quagmire in which the route to Bosa Marina was these last few years."

As regards the recovery of the old stations and roadside stations, Rossana Ledda, from the opposition, reiterated the validity of the project from a tourist point of view and for the valorisation of the territory also in economic terms. However, the funding allocated by the Region (around 5 million euros) for the reconversion no longer exists. The city council therefore decided to make a unanimous request to the Region so that these funds can be spent to improve the entire tourist route, between Marghine and Planargia.
