Mourning in the world of school. Professor Franco Fracchia, 71 years old, originally from Milan but resident in Sardinia, for years head of school at the “Mario Paglietti” Higher Institute in Porto Torres, has died. He was suffering from ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a degenerative disease that left him with no escape.
Present among the students since 1976, when he was appointed temporary teacher of basic sciences, mathematics, physics and laboratory, in 1994 he took on the role of principal with an annual role for the first time, first at the “M. Paglietti” in Porto Torres and subsequently at the “E. Fermi” by Ozieri. Since 2004 he has held the position of permanent school director at the “Paglietti” Institute, which has become a single complex (Scientific, Linguistic and Sports High School, Professional and Nautical High School of Porto Torres and Scientific and Linguistic High School of Castelsardo). He retired from his long service in September 2015.
A man of culture, in the days before his retirement he declared: «I express the hope that school can continue to be a privileged place where children, through culture, knowledge and being together, can understand the importance of feeling good with themselves and their community. A place in which to collaborate in the education of the young people of tomorrow."
