A special birthday for Giuseppa Salaris, widow of Constable Leonardo Saragato. To mark her centenary, she was visited by a delegation of Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Provincial Command, accompanied by the President of the Cagliari City Council.
The military, as a sign of affection and gratitude, presented her with a floral tribute, strongly desired by the Provincial Commander, Brigadier General Luigi Grasso, to demonstrate the closeness of the Carabinieri to those who shared, with dedication and pride, the life and values of the Institution.
Giuseppa welcomed the Carabinieri with great emotion , recalling memories of her past alongside her husband, who served in various locations across Sardinia, including in the Squadrons. "We were very much in love," she said with a smile, showing off the photographs her husband sent her even during the war, always accompanied by a short dedication.
Giuseppa Salaris, mother of five children—two boys and three girls—a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, also recalled how her husband, when he was on duty, often brought home a colleague for lunch, transforming those moments into occasions of sincere family sharing.
"The military of the Cagliari Provincial Command," a statement reads, "wanted to pay homage not only to a woman extraordinary for her longevity and the clarity of her memories, but also to the memory of all those who, with silent dedication, served the institution and the country, continuing to keep alive the deep and authentic bond that has united the force to its families for generations."
