Visiting places of history, to feel the breath of an island that hosted two leading magistrates of the anti-mafia pool.

For the first time the nephew of judge Giovanni Falcone, Vincenzo Di Fresco, landed in Asinara to relive those difficult and unforgettable moments when his uncle together with Paolo Borsellino, in the summer of 1985, were sent to the island. Together with a delegation from the "Giovanni Falcone" Foundation, he was able to see the traces of those long days lived by the two judges, locked in the guesthouse of the Casa Rossa to prepare the investigation of the maxi-trial against Cosa Nostra.

Di Fresco in the company of the commissioner and director of the Asinara National Park, Gian Carlo Muntoni and Vittorio Gazale, stopped to observe the images of the magistrates, the black and white photo that portrays them smiling displayed in the guardhouse of the super prison of Fornelli, reopened after the 1992 massacres when the two judges were killed by the mafia.

What remains of that stay is not only a plaque in homage to them, but the stories of the former penitentiary police inspector, Gianmaria Deriu, who accompanied the son of Falcone's sister on his visit to Asinara. «He was struck by the places that exude the difficult commitment of the two magistrates, the hard work, the time spent studying the papers, the moments of lightheartedness and humor».

His was not just any visit, but the beginning of a new path to carry forward a project to promote the culture of legality , an initiative that involves schools in a process of ongoing education in anti-mafia values, keeping alive in the young generations the memory of many Italians who sacrificed their lives to affirm justice. At Asinara he promised to return with a project and bring his mother, Maria Falcone.
