It will have a "destructive effect on the economy of Southern Sardinia" and will give "the final blow to traders from Cagliari and the hinterland", as well as "triggering a cascade of general negative effects on the economic fabric of small businesses in other sectors as well ».

The position of the Confcommercio Sud Sardegna council against the construction of a gigantic shopping center in the former Fas area, between State Road 130 and Elmas airport, is very harsh.

The president of the association, Alberto Bertolotti, is attacking the project, while work is underway to cover the contaminated area.

«As if that wasn't enough, we learn from the press that it would be a seriously polluted area», continues the traders' representative, «the citizens and entrepreneurs of Cagliari have the right to be informed with certainty about this news: we need to know if they were ( or are) remediation interventions planned and whether there are environmental and public health risks".

There is also another element that makes Bertolotti indignant: «In any case, it is bizarre to observe that the ownership of the areas involved can be traced back to the president of the Cagliari and Oristano chamber of commerce», Maurizio De Pascale, who is «at the same time, strenuously committed in an attempt to cede control of the Cagliari-Elmas airport, now owned by the Chamber of Commerce, and which will be directly connected to the commercial hub. It is disconcerting that the absolute protagonist of these simultaneous operations", continues the number one of Confcommercio, "is precisely the one who should be the figure of greatest protection and safeguard of the local entrepreneurial fabric, custodian of the most important assets, as well as guarantor of economic balances of the territory".

Bertolotti calls for "respect for legality and the interests and rights of traders and citizens of our territory and", further, announces that "we will continue to fight to protect the most important gateway to Sardinia, the Elmas airport".
