The church of Our Lady of Patience in Uri has been temporarily closed due to the partial collapse of the roof of its former hall . This decision was taken by parish priest Don Francesco Tavera, as legal representative of the place of worship and its appurtenances, owned by the Curia.

A forced decision made for safety reasons by the priest on the advice of the Diocesan offices of Alghero Bosa, pending verification of the building's usability.

The collapse affected part of the roof of the adjacent rooms, the former parish seat.

The Municipality of Uri will also take all necessary measures, not only to safeguard the safety of residents passing through the area, but also to protect the parish, a symbolic monument of the community and a heritage that belongs, even before the institutions, to the history and memory of all Uri residents.

"For years, in fact, even the simplest routine maintenance tasks, from cleaning gutters to maintaining the membranes and other elements needed to prevent rainwater infiltration, have been progressively postponed," says Gianpietro Delogu of the Diocese of Alghero-Bosa. " Seemingly small interventions, but they are essential to prevent time and water from causing much more serious damage to structures ."

Almost eleven months ago, when the first obvious infiltrations within the Church became apparent, Giampietro Delogu formally reported the situation, with a registered letter addressed to the Superintendency and diocesan offices, and for information to the Diocese and the parish priest. That letter requested an on-site inspection for emergency intervention to address the already evident critical issues, also specifying the Municipality's willingness to provide its support in carrying out the necessary measures to protect and safeguard the monument.

"What may have seemed like primarily conservative and decorative concerns back then have now taken on a decidedly more serious nature: the deterioration of the buildings and the progressive deterioration of the structures can in fact become a safety issue and, above all, a risk to people's safety." For this reason, Delogu has once again contacted the Diocesan offices, requesting urgent intervention, and I will also urge the Superintendency to conduct a new inspection and identify the necessary solutions.

At the same time, in recent days, even before this emergency arose, while analyzing the amendment to the Regional Finance Law, several provisions containing resources that could finance urgent interventions were identified. We will also submit a formal request on this front, hoping that the necessary resources can be quickly made available, not only for the urgent interventions at the Church of Our Lady of Patience, but also for the adjacent buildings, which are part of the memory of entire generations of Uresi.
