«Today is a day to remember, not only for the health care of central Sardinia but also for the whole island. It is a response to the needs of a territory, but it must only be a starting point and not an arrival point".

These are the certainties that the health councilor Carlo Doria wanted to convey in the Delogu entrance square, inaugurating the first Sardinian community hospital . Together with him, after the blessing of the parish priest, Father Paolo , the cutting of the ribbon was carried out by the general director Angelo Serusi . Also present were some mayors, several regional councilors and a delegation from the citizens' committee.

While not present, the president of the Region, Christian Solinas , wanted to underline some important aspects: «We are creating a new model of healthcare, modern and sustainable, capable of putting citizens at the center with their needs for care and assistance - he highlighted Solinas-. We are marking an important milestone in the process that we have set for the implementation of Ministerial Decree 77. Ghilarza hospital - he added - is the first community hospital to go into operation of the thirteen planned overall throughout the region for an investment more than 40 million euros.

The community hospital is housed on the second floor in adequately reorganized and equipped rooms with a module of 20 beds, where hospital doctors, nurses, Oss, physiotherapists and outpatient specialists work in a multi-professional regime.

The manager Lorenzo Fiorin did the honors in the ward, explaining who could be hospitalized: «Access, provided for short periods, can be requested by the family doctor, the outpatient specialist, the hospital wards for acute cases or the emergency room ».
