Residents barricaded themselves in their homes to escape the stench of hydrocarbons that polluted the air in Sarroch for hours , firefighters worked late into the evening on the streets of the town: the day after the terrible moments experienced in the town due to the foul odors coming from the refinery, Saras did not even apologise to the population for the inconvenience caused to thousands of people.

The company, in a statement, reported a breakdown in the automatic drainage system of a light petrol tank , but it is clear that the explanation does not satisfy residents , given that the problem of bad smells, especially in the summer months, regularly recurs.

Mayor Angelo Dessì is concerned about the frequency and severity of the outages: "This situation is no longer tolerable. We are strongly calling for a thorough and timely inspection of the facilities and depots to assess their condition and reliability. We are also asking the company to intensify maintenance of the facilities to prevent further incidents of this kind. We are now awaiting the official emissions data, which the City Council requested immediately after the incident."
