The body of Gabriele Pinna , the unfortunate 18-year-old judoka who died prematurely at the San Martino hospital in Oristano during the night between Saturday and Sunday due to a presumed fulminant meningitis, has been returned to the family. It will arrive in Ghilarza in the late morning today to be transferred to the church of San Palmerio where the funeral chapel will be set up . The parents and the parish priest Father Paolo Contini have shared the choice that Gabriele can be greeted by those who wish until the funeral, which will be celebrated tomorrow at 3 pm in the parish of Maria Vergine Immacolata .
San Palmerio is a very symbolic place for the 18-year-olds of the town because the Holy Mass is usually celebrated there that precedes the blessing on the occasion of the feast of Sant'Antonio when the Tuva lights up. The Asd Sport judo company of Abbasanta, where Gabriele Pinna was registered, is meanwhile preparing the last farewell to its athlete. Master Rosario Medde is still shocked by the tragic death of one of his best athletes and comments emotionally. « I can still see him happy with the medal around his neck and the regional champion certificate recently won in Ruinas and which had opened the doors for him to the national championships in Puglia where on March 29 he should have competed together with our other athlete Daniele Vaccaro of Norbello, who also qualified for the national stages ».
"Now - he adds - we should decide whether to participate. It would be nice to do it also to honor the memory of Gabriele who, I am sure, would have been happy. Of course we will go to the funeral with our official tracksuit to pay homage to the son, the sports companion, the brother and the friend of all of us ".
