There is an invisible thread, yet as strong as wood fiber, that is about to unite the community of Assemini to Poland . It is the thread woven by Francesco Cau and Antonino Ruggeri , two historic names in Assemini sculpture , who have joined their chisels in a gesture of profound friendship and spirituality: the joint creation of a statue depicting Saint John of Nepomuk.
The work is not just an artistic creation, but a gift to Father Adam Rakus, who has led the parish of San Pietro together with Father Paolo Sanna since 2019. The priest will bring the sculpture to his hometown as a tangible symbol of the bond between Sardinia and his native land. The choice of subject is not accidental: Saint John Nepomuk, martyr of the secret of the confessional and protector from floods, is a figure dear to Central European tradition, making the gift a cultured and heartfelt tribute to Father Adam's roots.
The two artists represent the excellence of local craftsmanship : Francesco Cau, born in 1947, is a poet of wood who has transformed roots and trunks into vibrant, sculptural forms; Antonino Ruggeri, a visually impaired sculptor, is living proof that art comes through touch and the heart before it comes through the eyes, having already enriched the squares of Assemini with monuments that speak of identity and solidarity.
Before embarking on its journey to Northern Europe, the sculpture will be displayed in the Church of San Pietro in Assemini. This will be a precious opportunity for the locals to admire the result of this unique collaboration up close, a testament to a community that knows how to embrace the world without forgetting the value of its masters. A piece of Assemini is about to depart, carrying with it the scent of Sardinian wood and a message of universal peace.
