A cargo ship, the "Marin", flying the flag of Palau, was blocked at the industrial port of Olbia by the Coast Guard, which found serious irregularities relating to safety on board that prevented navigation.

The cargo of 9,528 gross tons and used for the transport of rolling stock and solid loads, coming from the Algerian port of Djen Djen, landed at the Cocciani pier in Olbia to load marble, and then continue its journey to a Libyan port. However, after an on-board inspection she was stopped by the Coast Guard.

The military found serious deficiencies in the fire prevention system and related maintenance procedures, such as to make the freighter below the minimum safety standards required by international legislation.

The ship is currently at the dock at the industrial port and will not be able to sail until the irregularities contested by the Coast Guard are resolved.
