Fourth West Nile victim in the Oristano area. A 77-year-old man from Paulilatino who had been hospitalized at Brotzu Hospital for several weeks died yesterday.
Lino Carrus, a former railway worker, had been ill with a high fever and other symptoms attributable to the mosquito-borne virus. Hospitalized, tests later confirmed West Nile fever.
The situation in the Oristano area is therefore becoming increasingly critical, with 38 infections since August.
The mayor of Paulilatino, Domenico Gallus, in addition to expressing his condolences, stressed the need for widespread disinfestation, as the virus is now endemic in our area. It should be remembered that it isn't transmitted from person to person, but only through mosquito bites.
