This morning , the passengers and vehicles of the Moby ship “Ale Due” departed from the port of Olbia , returning to the port of Porto Torres after a two-hour journey in the direction of Genoa , following a fire that started in the engine of a refrigerated truck. The flames were immediately extinguished and tamed using the fixed water spray system.

The incident occurred yesterday evening, December 19, after the Moby ferry had left Porto Torres at 8:30 pm and returned around 11:30 pm following the captain's decision taken for safety reasons, after the fire had been put out. No injuries were caused to people, including the crew.

"Passengers were promptly informed of the ship's precautionary return to Porto Torres and were provided with maximum assistance ," the company said in a statement . "They were assigned cabins free of charge for the night, and this morning they were re-protected on the Moby Tommy ship, which left Olbia for Genoa ."

Meanwhile, the company apologizes to the 268 passengers on board "for the inconvenience suffered" and thanks the crew and firefighters "for the professionalism shown in the prompt and punctual intervention, which immediately made the ship and the people on board safe."

The Moby ship "Ale Due" is docked in the industrial port of Porto Torres where it will be inspected for safety reasons before leaving again.
