"We ask the Government to convene a bilateral meeting to review the Sardinian Statute." This was stated by Sardinia's Governor Alessandra Todde , from Florence, during the 2026 Festival of the Regions.

"There shouldn't be any first-class or second-class autonomies , but they must all be accomplished," Todde explained. He added: "The question we ask ourselves is: what tools do we need to truly implement Sardinia's autonomy?"

Hence the request for a meeting with Rome, "defining a clear path and timeline that will allow us to achieve concrete results within a clear timeframe."

"For us, there's also the issue of implementing the insularity statute," Todde continued, emphasizing the need to ensure continuity of connections and level transportation and logistics costs to eliminate the disparity with those of other regions.

"Specialty," Todde stated, "is not a privilege granted to certain territories. It is a response our Constitution intended to provide to the historical and geographical differences that characterize our country."

For this reason, "the revision of the Statute must begin with the needs of the people and the possibility of guaranteeing Sardinian citizens the same rights and opportunities as the rest of the country."

Todde also recalled that Sardinia has formally requested the opening of its bilateral meeting on November 5, 2024, "without it having been convened so far."

Revision of the Statute remains a priority, however, because "it must ensure the Region has adequate powers and resources for its responsibilities, starting with healthcare, which has been fully funded by the regional budget since 2007. If a Region is required to fully cover the cost of a service," Todde concluded, "it must have the tools necessary to organize it according to the characteristics of its territory, while respecting national guarantees."
