First day of summer in Sardinia and there is an immediate fire boom, as foreseen by the 48-hour alert (also valid for Thursday 22 June) issued by the regional civil protection .

As many as 22 fires broke out on the island today, six required the intervention of aircraft.

The fire that broke out between San Gavino and Guspini was huge: three helicopters from the bases of Fenosu, Marganai and Villasalto intervened, the ground teams of the Forestry and two of Forestas were also on the spot. The fire, fueled by strong gusts of sirocco, also caused the closure for a few hours of the Statale 197 (now reopened) in both directions . The area most affected was the one at the junction for Gonnosfanadiga.

Helicopters are also in action in the Oristano, Arbus, Paulilatino, Abbasanta and Gergei countryside .
