Antonio Giordano is the new Commander of the Sassari Fire Brigade . Today he receives the baton from Gianfrancesco Monopoli , who, after almost 2 years, will assume the new position of Director of the Liaison Office of the Head of Department and of the Corps of the Interior Ministry.

CAREER - Appointed senior manager in April 2023, Giordano, a graduate in civil engineering, was hired as an executive officer of the Fire Brigade in 1998 and, after attending the training course at the Higher Fire Prevention Institute in Rome, was assigned to the Provincial Command of the Nuoro Fire Brigade, as head of Fire Prevention and Rescue, as well as the commander's deputy.

From 20 June 2016 he was appointed Senior Manager and assigned to the Interior Ministry, with the task of planning and coordinating relief operations in the provinces of central Italy hit by the earthquake. From January 2018 he served at the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade of Cagliari as Deputy Manager of the Commander, to then become Provincial Commander of the Fire Brigade of Nuoro on 29 June 2020. On 1 June he was appointed Manager of the Office Public Rescue, CMR, AIB Service and for Prevention and Technical Safety at the Regional Directorate of Fire Brigade Calabria, retaining the position of Regent Commander of Nuoro, a position he will continue to hold until the appointment of a new First Executive.

EMERGENCIES – Giordano distinguished himself by participating in various emergencies: the flood of Villagrande Strisaili in December 2004, the earthquake of L'Aquila in 2009 and Emilia Romagna in 2012, the flood of 2013 in Cagliari, Assemini, Capoterra, Uta in October 2018, the Bitti flood in November 2020, the collapse of the building in Tiana in November 2022, and lastly the management of the fire in Posada and Siniscola on 6 and 7 August 2023.

Thanks to the outgoing Commander Monopoli, the firefighters specify, many objectives have been achieved: the rescue device was implemented in the most critical periods with the opening of the seasonal garrisons of Valledoria and Santa Teresa Gallura and the aquatic garrisons of Olbia and Stintino. On a logistical level, having acquired the land for the construction of the new headquarters in Alghero and Arzachena, the assignments for the executive design of the buildings were entrusted; redevelopment work was carried out on the headquarters which will soon house a new and more efficient operations room - crisis room; the collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Sassari led to an agreement for the dissemination of the values and history of the Corps and the introduction of new forms of art in the headquarters of the Command.
