Tragedy struck this morning during training near Lake Temo, in the Monteleone Roccadoria area.

A helicopter rescue worker and instructor with the Alghero Fire Department, Pietro Isola, originally from Cagliari, fell ill. Quickly assisted by his colleagues, he was transported to Sassari by the Corps' Drago helicopter and entrusted to the care of 118.

Unfortunately, he passed away at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari. His condition worsened, and Isola died in the arms of the doctors who were trying to keep him alive.

"Our deepest sympathy and embrace goes out to Pietro's family and all his colleagues at the Alghero fire department in this moment of immense grief. His passing deeply affects the entire firefighting community, which has lost a respected professional and a man committed daily to the rescue service ." These are the words of Marco Piergallini, general secretary of Conapo, the independent firefighters' union, and Pietro Nurra, regional secretary, in a statement.

The regional and national secretariats of the FNS CISL also expressed their condolences: "With Pietro Isola, the National Fire Brigade Corps loses a highly experienced professional, respected for his human and professional qualities. An excellent driver, SAF specialist, and air rescuer, he always performed his duties with competence, dedication, courage, and a profound sense of duty , placing his skills at the service of the community and his colleagues," the union representatives wrote in a statement.

«His passing – they conclude – makes this loss even more painful if we consider that, after a career entirely dedicated to serving the State and protecting human life, in a few months he would have reached the deserved goal of retirement» .
